In 1989, the Piggs bought the home, which had been vacant for 16 years. They named the home Henderson Hall and began restoration. The Gunnings purchased the home in 1991 and we purchased it in 2006.
Outstanding characteristics of Greek Revival are present in Henderson Hall. The four massive tapered and fluted columns with Scamozzi capitals, so prominent on the front, are reproduced throughout the house 17 times in various sizes. The ornate balustrade dominating the roof-line is matched on the verandah and gallery. The impressive foyer and stair hall are separated by an elaborate full-columned entablature. The windows are one on one.
This home as been featured on the Terrell County Historical Homes Tour several times, most recently in May of 2010 and is on the cover of the southern Georgia cookbook A Standing Invitation To Gracious Southern Living.
In the 60s or 70s, the kitchen was updated and a rear sun porch was enclosed. Central heat (natural gas) and air on the first floor and convection heat with window air units on second floor.
The home sits on a double lot and is landscaped with crepe myrtle, dogwood, azaleas, redbud, magnolia and camellias among others.
Landscaping also includes 3-stage water fountain in the side yard and 12x20 ft. garden shed.
